Your Take: Should Backpacks Be Banned From All Public Events?

Would banning backpacks from all public events make us safer? Share your thoughts in the comments.

This story was written by Elissa Bass.

Backpacks have become as ubiquitous as cell phones — everyone has one, and they bring it with them everywhere.

But dating as far back as the Atlanta Olympics bombing in 1996 to the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, backpacks have been a bomber's go-to choice for carrying his or her weapon.

At an event like the marathon, or the Olympics, it is virtually impossible for authorities to search every backpack (unlike an arena event where there is controlled entry).

What's your take? Should backpacks and the like be banned from all public events like the Boston Marathon, or the New Year's gathering in Times Square?
