VIDEO: Corey Sipe Loves Holidays

Montville Patch blogger shares his delight and his Halloween-decoration collection

You’ve read Corey Sipe’s words. You’ve read his opinions (Buffalo Wild Wings). You’ve read his research (changes coming to the I-95 and I-395 rest areas).

Now, you’re going to get a little view into his life, which is filled with the spirit of the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas.

Starting today, Sipe has a series of blogs running about Halloween, and his collections of Halloween decorations.

Maybe Sipe’s collections will inspire you to post your own on the Montville Patch, or the Montville Patch Halloween Facebook page!

Sipe says that even as a kid, he loved dressing up. Joseph and the Coat of Many Colors was one Halloween costume he remembers from childhood.

As a kid, Sipe – who is now 30 – spent his allowance on houses for the holidays. His parents liked his growing collection, and started getting into decorating for Halloween, as well. Sipe’s mom’s decorations, he says, are mostly scarecrows and figurines.

“Christmas is the holiday that we do really big,” he says. The decorations are outside the house as well as inside.

The Sipes use an artificial tree, mostly so they can keep it up longer – from Thanksgiving to the middle of January, he says.

Sipe works at Foxwoods, in marketing and customer service. His department resolves issues, he says.

He wants to get into journalism, but it is a hard row to hoe right now. After college, he worked as an intern at the Connecticut Legislature, researching bills and responding to constituents.

“I have an interest in doing research,” he says, and and “putting the pieces together and coming to my own conclusion on things.”

He worked at the Montville Times in 2004 and 2005, and then at the Pictorial Gazette.

“Those two years  at the Pictorial Gazette were the best years I’ve had at the journalism field,” he says, adding that while he is doing work online these days, he does enjoy the physical newspaper.

As Halloween is nearing, Sipe is getting ready. “I still love the decorations,” he says, with a little smile. “Especially the lights. Orange lights, houses with lights… Lights just make you feel better. More cheerful.”
