The Schedule Of Events For Montville's Memorial Day Parade

Watch out for a parade on the road on Sunday, or better yet be there early watch it.

Montville's annual Memorial Day parade and service will begin at noon on Sunday. The event begins with a memorial service at Montville Town Hall with remarks from Mayor Ron McDaniel, Mohegan Tribe Chief Lynn Malerba, and area representatives. There will also be a massing of colors, laying of wreaths, and performance of the Revolutionary War song "Chester" by the Montville High School chamber chorus.

William Shuleshko Sr., who served in the Merchant Marine during World War II and Army during the Korean War, will serve as the parade's grand marshal. Shuleshko will also deliver remarks during the service and oversee the raising of the American flag and Pledge of Allegiance.

Route 32 in the area of Town Hall will be closed at about noon for the parade, which will depart at 1 p.m. The procession will start at the intersection of Raymond Hill Road and Route 32 and proceed down the highway, turning onto Depot Road to end at Comstock Cemetery. The parade's theme will focus on the Merchant Marine participation in World War II.

Another memorial service will take place at the cemetery and include laying of wreaths, a performance of Taps by the Montville High School Band trumpets section, and rifle salute. Residents are invited to the American Legion on Pink Row following the service for free refreshments.
