Update: Severe Weather to Rolls in Within the Next Hour, Tornado Watch Issued

Heavy rains, thunderstorms and possibly large hail predicted to begin later this evening and into the night for all of New London County.

 

Update at 6:25 p.m.: The forecast radar map for Montville shows the most severe weather rolling in at around 7:45 p.m.

A quick look at the forecast for Montville and the National Weather Service radar map shows a line of strong storms heading our way, likely to arrive in the next couple of hours. Make sure to get and stay indoors for the duration of any storm, especially since a tornado watch for New London County was just issued.

The National Weather Service is predicting severe thunderstorms with heavy showers this afternoon and tonight, with the chance of large hail.

The service has issued a hazardous weather alert for New London County after it predicted heavy storms for this afternoon and tonight. The service also said large hail and “damaging” winds are possible.

The Forecast

The rest of the afternoon: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. South wind 15 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 3 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m.. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Low around 63. South wind 7 to 14 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
