Runners, Walkers Have 5K For A Cause
The Montville Lions Are Organizing A 5K Run Walkathon To Raise Money For Kahlan Healy's 2nd Leukemia Battle. Barbecue and Picnic to Follow.
Runners, walkers (everyone) should make room on the calendar for June 5th. At 10:00 Sunday, the gun will go off for the fifth annual Lions Race, starting from the Polish Club off of Maple Avenue. This year, the run/walkathon is raising money for Kahlan Healy, a 10 year old girl who is facing a second battle with leukemia.
Lions Vice President Chris Ouellette is organizing the event. As a substititute teacher, he knows Kahlan’s father Dan Healy, a technology education teacher and soccer coach who has spent many years within the Montville School system. The event will help the family cover their expenses as their daughter goes through treatment.
Some highlights of the race will include timing by SNERRO race officials, who are known for local races such as the Kelley Race and the Tarzan Brown Race. Finishers will be able to enjoy barbecue at the end of the race as well as live music. Spectators can also pay to enjoy the barbecue and the music at the race end.
Those who do choose to run can look forward to a “heartbreak hill” at the end of the course.
Sign-in is $25 on race day or $20 with the mail-in form. Participants who sign up before May 24th will receive a free t-shirt to boot.
If you would like to mail in the application to the race, you can use the entry form attached to this article.
