News and Needs from the Montville Animals Shelter

Kittens need homes, and a special-needs golden Lab needs help

A golden Labrador, currently at the Montville Animal Shelter, needs a loving home - but before that, he needs a medical test.

Another dog - a great-looking, happy guy - is seeking a high-energy family.

Eager, the three-legged kitten, has found a home, but a whole passel of four-legged kittens are in need of adoption.

The golden Lab has been drinking too much water, and is unable to hold his urine for more than three or four hours, Animal Control Officer Chris Martel says. It looked like a simple urinary tract infection, Martel says, but now seems that is might be something more serious.

The test to determine the nature of the problem costs $319. The shelter has some money, but needs donations to have the test done.

The dog could have Cushing's disease or Addison's disease, both of which can be helped by medicine that varies in cost. Or the dog could have a neurological condition, in which case, there probably is no solution.

Martel says donations of cash would be very helpful, and if there is anyone out there who would be willing to take on a special-needs dog, that would be great. She contacted Lab rescue, but it is overrun right now and can't accept any more dogs.

The Lab is handsome and as sweet as can be. Martel says he's about 4, is neutered, and is good with kids and other dogs. He is clearly good with cats, too, as evidenced by his demeanor around the six kittens that are still in the shelter.

Those kittens are fun, full of energy and mischief, and growing fast. They really need homes. They are good-looking kittens in a variety of coat colors and patterns, and their personalities range from sweet and gentle to rambunctious and impish.

A high-energy dog who Martel says might be a cane Corso mix, also needs a home. He is young, strong and needs an owner who would exercise him and/or give him room to run.

Patch already reported that Boston, the high-energy pit bull who was in the pound recently, has been adopted. Martel say he went to a family with three older kids, and "he was awesome with them."

The family's older pit bull had died recently, and they were looking for another pit bull.
