Montville Residents Discuss Plans to Fix Old Colchester Road

Engineers and residents talked about what repairs are needed.

Old Colchester Road residents of Montville related stories of flooding  while town engineers took notes at an informational meeting about repairing the road.

According to a report in The Day, engineers say the road floods because there’s a pipe that cannot keep up with overflow from a stream nearby when it rains. They may replace that with two culverts. Engineers also said they may add a dry hydrant to the road, which will help firemen get the firehose off the truck.

Even though the engineering firm has not made any firm decisions about the project, the repairs are estimated to cost $929,000. The Federal Highway Administration will pay for 80 percent of the costs; 10 percent will be paid for by the state and Montville will cover the remaining 10 percent.
