Daily Five: Montville High's Prom Closet

Five things to know for Thursday, April 25, 2013.

1. Today should be mostly cloudy, with a high around 64, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be mostly clear, with a low around 41, according to the service.

2. This is interesting. At Montville High School, there is a "prom closet," where students can borrow a dress for the upcoming prom.

Students can donate their old prom dress, shoes or accessories to the prom closet if they have no intention to wear them again. Then other students can use those clothes to avoid spending a lot of money for just one night.

Donations for the prom closet are accepted at the school's main office.

3. Congratulations to Montville High School students Winnie Chen, Rena Wu and Patrick Lam, who all won prizes at the FBLA State Championship.

The students are all part of the FBLA Club, or the Future Business Leaders of America Club. There was a state championship this week for the group, and Chen finished first in web design competition, Wu finished fourth in the job interview competition and Patrick Lam finished fifth in the word processing competition. Good work!

4. Tonight, there are two town meetings in Montville, both of which will be held in Montville Town Hall. The Public Safety Building Committee meets at 6 and the Montville Republican Town Committee meets at 7.

5. On this date in 1960, the USS Triton completed the first submerged circumnavigation of the globe. And on this date in 1898, the United States declared war on Spain, starting the Spanish-American War.
