Daily Five: Stunning Weather, Calendar Alerts and Congrats, Lacia!

Your Daily Five for Friday April 5, 2013

1. It will reach nearly 60 today, albeit with some early showers giving way to some clearing. But Saturday and Sunday, well, can you say heaven? It will be sunny both days with highs near 60.

2. I will absolutely be doing a story next week when she is honored by the Board of Education, but I wanted to give a big shout out and huge congratulations to Lacia Japp, who was recently named a Governor’s Scholar of Connecticut. This is a tremendous honor and achievement. I know her family is bubbling over with pride and joy. And so are we! You go, girl! Awesome!

(Break out the calendars. The rest of your Daily Five is full of dates. Important dates if you have kids in school or you pay taxes!)

3. Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. in the Montville High School auditorium is the public hearing on the 2013-2014-school budget. It may not be as contentious as in previous years since the schools were able to maintain a zero increase, but I suspect people still have plenty to say.

4. The next day, April 24 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, the town budget public hearing will be held. Now that’s a horse of a different color. It could be a big turnout. Or not.

5. The Montville High School graduation date has been set: June 20 at 6 p.m. I was at last year’s graduation and it was super exciting!
