Daily Five: Join Montville's Community Conversation About Education

Five things to know for Friday, April 26, 2013.

1. Today should be sunny, with a high around 62, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be clear, with a low around 38, according to the service.

2. On Wednesday, May 8, the Montville School District will hold a "community conversation about education," involving Montville parents, students, community leaders, elected officials, Board of Education members, senior citizens, members of the PTO and basically anyone else who wants to show up.

The topic will be "creating a culture of learning." The event will be on Wednesday, May 8 from 4:45 to 8:30 at the Montville High School Cafeteria. A light dinner will be served.

Only 100 people can participate in the discussion, so to make reservations, email mtripp@montvilleschools.org or call (860) 848-1228 by May 3. Childcare services are available.

3. Saturday is Opening Day in Montville, at least for the town's youngest players.

The event is for 4-year-old Tiny Tee Ballers and 5-year-old Tee Ballers, who both will play their first games of the season Saturday morning. At 9:45 a.m., there will be a ceremony to celebrate Opening Day.

4. Two new movies open today at Waterford’s Regal Cinemas.

The Big Wedding, (R), a romantic comedy starring Robert DeNiro and Diane Keaton, plays at 5:15, 7:30 and 9:45. And Pain & Gain (R), an action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and The Rock, plays at 4, 6:55, 7:20 and 10. 

5. On this date in 1933, the Gestapo – the official secret police force of Nazi Germy – was established. And on this date in 1865, Union cavalry troopers killed John Wilkes Booth.
