Cool It!

Kids at the Parks & Recreation Department's summer camp get soaked... and five places to go today to cool off.

When the Parks & Recreation Department called the Chesterfield Fire Department and asked for some cooling help, Chief Keith Truex was ready.

Most of the kids had gone on a field trip to a roller rink, but the ones who stayed behind had a blast in the cool water from the fire hose.

It's supposed to be a little less tropical today, but still, it is going to be brutal.

2.. It's cool all over at Mohegan Sun, whether you're gambling, shopping, dining, or just relaxing in the lobby of the hotel, or any of the nooks and crannies in the casino.

3. Crystal Mall. You'll have plenty of company there! Shop, dine, lounge - you can even get a bargain at the Border's Books in the mall - or cross over Route 85 and check out the sale at the main store.

4. Have a dip in Gardiner Lake. The cooling you get from a dip in the lake will last for a good while. Also, while this might sound nutty, sitting in cool water in a kiddie wading pool - or in your bathtub - will bring surprising relief that will last for hours.

5. The Norwich Senior Center. Rose City Senior Center, 8 Mahan Drive, is planning to be open today, from noon to p.m. If you're hot, go there. They will let you in, even if you're not a Norwich resident!
