Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes in New London

Most of us know someone with diabetes, a disease that affects 240,000 children and adults in Connecticut and 28.5 million people throughout the nation. The American Diabetes Association will host 125 walks throughout the country, and one of them is coming to our area with a fun-filled morning of diabetes education, exercise and entertainment!

On Sunday, September 29 Ocean Beach Park will host the New London Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, raising essential funds to provide community-based education programs, help protect the rights of people with diabetes, and fund critical research to prevent, manage and cure diabetes. Currently, the American Diabetes Association funds 14 research projects in Connecticut alone. Registration for the New London Walk begins at 9:00 and the walk itself begins at 10:00.

Every 17 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes, a disease that kills more Americans each year than breast cancer and AIDS combined. Diabetes is a leading cause of kidney failure, non-traumatic lower-limb amputations, and new cases of adult blindness. It is also a leading cause of heart disease and stroke. So come join the American Diabetes Association and Walk to Stop Diabetes!
