New Officers For Montville Education Foundation

The Montville Education Foundation, Inc. (MEF) Board of Directors met Monday for their first meeting of the year, discussing future plans and signing in new officers for their year commitment of service.

"I've enjoyed leading this group and organization since becoming incorporated in 2008. It's been a passion of mine since the Founders had their first meeting in 2006" said President Linda Patton Heller. " ... “This is an organization that brings our community together, to invest in innovative practices that enrich learning for residents of all ages. Learning is lifelong and cultivating knowledge will ultimately improve and enhance all of our lives.”

Michael Severino is vice president, Tania Bonner is continuing as secretary and Karen McDaniel is treasurer. Board members include, Jeffrey Buebendorf, Donald Dykes, Christopher Frayer, Michael Hamilton, Brian McNamara, Richard Slack and Stephanie Treat.  Ex-Officio members are Mark Johnson, Brian Levesque, Steven Loiler, Christine Manville, Michelle Smith and Laura Tanner.

The foundation was established in 2008 as a non-profit all volunteer organization made up of board members from within the community who strive to support educational opportunities to enrich the lives of all residents.

Montville individuals, teachers, administrators, non-profit organizations and town agencies are just a few of the groups who may seek additional funding and apply for a grant up to $5000 through the Foundation. MEF offers two grant cycles and Grant Applications are due April 30 and October 30.  The Grant Committee blindly reviews and evaluates the applications and if approved, the applicant(s) will receive the funding to be used toward the project or program based upon their request.

"We will award $10,000 again this year," Patton Heller said.

In recent years, the generosity of many community leaders, donors and friends, has helped to fund computer instruction for the senior citizens at the Montville Senior Center, brought new computers and software to the Montville Youth Service Bureau and adult education enhancement for language minority parents at Oakdale Elementary School.
