A Heavy Week in Meetings

Town council and school board top the list

 

The following municipal events are scheduled this week

Monday

The Montville Town Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. in the Town Council Chamber in Montville Town Hall. According to the agenda, which you can read in the photo box, the purpose of the meeting is to hear public comment and questions about an ordinance governing the authority and responsibilities of the Water and Sewer Commission.

The changes would shift from the town council to the Water and Sewer
Commission the authority to hire and fire water and sewer department employees, to approve water and sewer department annual budgets, and to update and make corrections to existing ordinances, according to the agenda.

The council has a second public hearing scheduled for 6:45 p.m. in the council chamber. This one is to hear comment on a proposed ordinance amending the current voting districts in Montville in accordance with the State of Connecticut redistricting plan of 2011.

The regular council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. On the agenda are December reports from the Fire Marshal, Police Department, town fire companies, animal control and building official. There is a vote on an ordinance that "individuals and groups of individuals serving on any town board or commission shall not submit any letters to the editor or make other public political statements endorsing any political candidate on behalf of the board or commission."

There is a vote scheduled on the ordinance regarding the WPCA that is the subject of the earlier public hearing, a vote on the voting district changes, and a vote to accept Fawn's Meadow Road into the town roadway system.

Tuesday

The Board of Education Policy Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:15 p.m. in the Superintendent's Small Conference Room in Montville High School. On the agenda is consideration of an action on policies on hiring procedures, child abuse, nondiscrimination of students and school personnel and admissions/placement.

The Board of Education Educational Evaluation Committee is scheduled to meet at 5:15 p.m. in the Superintendent's Large Conference room in Montville High School.

The Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. in the Montville High School library/media center. On the agenda is a vote on the proposed 2012-2013 school budget, and a vote on the proposal for full-day kindergarten.

Wednesday

The Parks & Recreation Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the council chamber. On the agenda are updates on summer camp and wrestling, and discussions of lacross, a community tag sale, and the spring brochure.

Thursday

The Inland Wetlands Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the town council chamber.

Saturday

The nonprofit tag sale, at Fair Oaks Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is to benefit the Mohegan-Pequot Lions Club.

Monday

Town Hall is closed for the President's Day holiday.
